We spent the Easter weekend at the Tembe Lodge in Tembe Elephant Park. The highlight was definitely the game drives led by Patrick Mthethwa, the best guide I have yet encountered in any game park in South Africa.

There is nothing quite as intimidating as an elephant, with earsflapping, bearing down on you. However, all he had in mind was intimidation and not much malice. Our guide, Patrick Mthethwa knew exactly how close to get and when to call it quits.
At the water hole where the webcam is situated, we saw this old gentleman. The younger bulls treated him with due deference.
Black rhinos are well known for their belligerence. Patrick once again came up trumps. He switched off the vehicle engine and explained that the rhino would mock charge a couple of times. If we remained quiet, he would lose interest and wander away. This is exactly what happened, but not before I got a couple of good photographs.
Every evening at dinner, a family of five bush babies would arrive to see what they could scavenge.

Today, 30 years ago, I married the man of my dreams. To celebrate the fact that he was prepared to put up with my wild dreams and schemes (and finance most of them!) we are going to celebrate by spending the Easter Weekend at Tembe Elephant Park.

I have been watching the elephants on webcam and can't wait to see them in real life. (Please note that on cloudy days the camera does not work as it is solar powered)

Check back for pictures after the weekend.

You know you are in Africa when....

you are in Africa when you look out your office window and see a monkey looking at you.

On further investigation it became apparent that he has a severely damaged foot. we have called the animal protection people and as soon as he reappears, they will come and catch him.

This page is supposed to be for an informal diary, almost like a blog. Problem is, Telkom lines seem to be so unstable it is taking us forever just to get the essentials loaded.

Maybe we can get all that sorted out soon and start posting pictures etc of the amazing places we go to to source some of the craft we hope to sell on this website.
